Todays wrong (and puzzle) (Wednesday, 21st June 2006) |

Todays puzzle on the other hand, I just can't click as fast everyone else, I hardly spent anytime thinking at all, and yet i'm 5 minutes slower than the current best. I could probably cut a minute off my time by thinking faster (and not using the save/load feature for fear of the dreaded 1x1.gif bug). Maybe 2 min, but I don't see anyway I'll get any better than that. |

Tilps Kwon-Tom Obsessive Puzzles: 6720 Best Total: 18m 37s | Posted - 2006.06.21 01:06:24 I clicked fix position twice (once when I ran out of obvious logic, and once after returning from save file, due to the load/save), I never reverted to the fix though. My first 'guess' for the rest of the puzzle lead directly to the result (using obvious logic along the way).

procrastinator Kwon-Tom Obsessive Puzzles: 1083 Best Total: 12m 56s | Posted - 2006.06.21 10:28:11 The secret I found was the orientation of the middle 3 in the upper right. There are fairly obvious reasons why it can't go any of the other three ways, and once you've solved that, the rest is easy. As long as you don't imagine a non-existent X and have to start again like I did.
After doing the easy things in each corner, that 3 jumps out at me as the obvious place to look next - the top right has the most unused information, and the 3 is nicely constrained - though actually I only ruled out the X being on the left or right before I was compelled to look for a loop involving the right-most 3, and _that_ filled in the last edge of the middle 3.
Did anyone find another way? Or decide something else was more promising than that 3? |

You got two Xes on that one just using known patterns? |

I think what he means is if you think about it, the line on the 2 can't enter that one, or you get a local loop (or a dead end) quite quickly... |
mathmaniac Kwon-Tom Obsessive Puzzles: 1293 Best Total: 20m 57s | Posted - 2006.06.21 19:37:48 I may be wrong but I was forced to put a x coming into that 1 on the edge.
