Has anyone else experienced a bizare issue where seemingly at random, a click on the puzzle (possibly a mouse-down mouse-moved-a-bit mouse-up) causes firefox to load 1x1.gif, losing all of your progress since your last save? (Might be right click related, but I'm pretty sure left click has had it happen too.)
Wondering if its some extension I have in my copy of firefox which is causing the issue. |

I have noticed the same thing!
I also use firefox (1.5.0.4) with several extensions.
This bug is very annoying, causing me to waste time saving my progress regularly.
I thought it was more related to double clicks (so I've started using right clicks for Xs)

Very odd. I use the same version of Firefox, but the only way I get that to happen is by right-clicking and selecting "view image" from the menu that appears (my right-click doesn't put crosses on the puzzle). It's possible that an extension is causing the problem, but as far as I know I'm turning off all menus/drags etc so it shouldn't be happening. |

I can confirm that it appears to be double click related.
if i make 3 or 4 fast left clicks in a row while moving the mouse (doesn't seem to work if i keep the mouse still), then i get 1x1.gif or hcross.gif or hline.gif (those the only 3 i've seen so far) |

I just tried exactly that, but still can't get it to happen here. I figure it must either be an extension you're using, or an option you have set somewhere. Alternatively, maybe an extension/option I'm using is preventing it! |

Happens to me frequently with FireFox, and also with Opera, but less frequently. Good thing about Opera is that it opens the .gif in a new tab, so it's just a matter of closing the tab and you don't lose your progress. |

I just went to options and disabled javascript from disabling my right click menu. But the issue still occurs. I may have been a little under estimating with 3 or 4 clicks though, it can take upto 20 sometimes.

I've seen the 1x1 image problem with Mozilla 1.7.1 with the LiveHttpHeaders extension. More often, though, the drag and drop problem still shows up for me. |

I've made one really minor change which may or may not affect this issue... as I can't get it to happen here I've no idea what might be going wrong. But let me know if you're still seeing it... and if you have any idea what might be causing it, let me know that too!! |

Still happening.
I'm guessing its a bug where firefox decides double click of some variety runs the default action of the right click menu which isn't displayed. But my javascript skills are not so great so this is just a guess 
I can't get it to happen on the other computer here, its got no plugins.
I removed downthemall, which is the only one of the plugins which should affect the click/right click and it still happens after that.
Other than comparing security settings I'm not sure what else to check.

There is an extension I've started using at work for firefox called HTML Validator - which validates the html generated using tidy.
I just ran it over the current puzzle page and its not happy at all, but I don't see why that would only affect some copies of firefox, so its probably a red herring.
I tried the javascript error console 'console squared', but it only found two invalid css tags - which are obviously deliberately there to cover as many browsers as possible. |

Just wanted to moan - today it happened on the very last click of the puzzle which I had no saves for. Would of gotten under 4minutes for mondays puzzle (which is good for me  ) |

If you can, I'd suggest using Opera or IE to ensure you don't lose too much time. I've never had this happen to me with IE, and when it does with Opera, it opens the 1x1.gif in a new tab so it's a simple matter of tabbing back to the puzzle and nothing gets lost. Have to admit, this is the reason I switched from Firefox to Opera and I haven't looked back!  |

Well like I've said before, I use Firefox and haven't had it happen, but I'm still keeping my eye out for possible causes and if I can find a way to solve it I will...

I use Firefox and it happens to me regularly. I have many extensions installed...so I suppose it could be any one of them.
A workaround I am trying is to use the 'IE Tab' extension and render kwontomloop.com using IE inside firefox. I haven't been able to reproduce the 1x1.gif error yet...
Maybe rendering in IE is just bypassing the extension causing the problem.
The only extension I have in common with tilps is Adblock...but disabling it doesn't seem to help. |
