I'm one of the 'slow' ones, with a best weekly time of 2h18m, but this puzzle alone took me over 2 hours to solve!
After the first few minutes, virtually every line and cross was by trial and error! |

Completed in 11h 48m 40s.
Not straight, mind you. I gave up after 20 minutes. Only took about 5 minutes in the morning. My brain made some progress while I was asleep. |

Yea it was really a tough one. After getting done less than a third of the puzzle I made a guess, got a bit of progress and then another guess and finished it. Two extreamly lucky guesses and Helge still beat me out. Speaking of which I don't know where I am gonna cut out another 5 minutes off my time to join the greats... |

I made a guess very early on and ran with it and I ended up on the leaderboard top ten for the day for the first time ever. So although it was a hard puzzle I'm happy to see my name on the list. |

I posit that Helge started trying stuff in the top left while the rest of us looked for more likely things on the rest of the board. The Xes above and below the leftmost 1 on the second row are easy to find if you're looking for them, then it's natural to FP a line on the left of that 1. That'd solve the puzzle in about 1:47, I suppose.
But it's not something I'd ever replicate with my approach, I'd spend at least 3 minutes looking for something simpler on the rest of the board, even if I did get lucky and guess the right thing eventually.
Of course Helge may have done something completely different? |
