shading request |
PuzzleLover Kwon-Tom Obsessive Puzzles: 1033 Best Total: 38m 17s | Posted - 2008.02.27 04:46:12 foilman, could you save the shading state of a puzzle in progress when the shading is turned off? Shading can be distracting so there's a good reason to want to turn it off and back on.
Saving shading state in saved puzzles isn't as important, but would be nice.
Tilps, since you're adding shading to LoopDeLoop (hooray!) could you also save shading state? Thanks. |
foilman Kwon-Tom Admin Puzzles: 3614 Best Total: 24m 6s | Posted - 2008.02.27 08:49:38 Switching shading on and off again and keeping squares shaded is already working in the new "Flash" version of the puzzles - which I'm hoping will appear sometime in the next week or two. Just need to iron out a few bugs and make it a little more stable before opening it up to general use.
It currently doesn't save shading state, but it's very easy to add in. I probably won't be adding it to the existing javascript version though... |
Tilps Kwon-Tom Obsessive Puzzles: 6720 Best Total: 18m 37s | Posted - 2008.02.27 09:06:21 Hrmm, I can easily add saving shading state except for one issue. Currently for square grids the default save format is a nice pretty one a person can look at and understand. For non-squre grids I use a custom format which is useless for a person, but I can keep arbitary data in it without problem.
I could change it so that it uses the custom format whenever the grid has data in it which can't be represented by the pretty format - but if you've clicked solve, the puzzle may contain such information even if you can't see it. Is it reasonable to assume that if you've turned off the display of shading you don't want it saved? |

Tilps, it's reasonable to insist that saving shading state only happen when saving while shading is displayed. |

Hello Foilman, In case this a good time to ask, since you are currently doing enhancements with this upcoming flash version, it would be nice to have color available in the Forum Puzzle Editor Regardless thanks you for all the work you have done and continue doing on this site, it is truly appreciated. |

Well I've done the minimum amount of work to get shading kind of useable from a players perspective in LoopDeLoop Beta 31 - if you want to try it out and tell me what sucks/doesn't that would be great.
There is alot more shading work left to be done - but I plan to do that in the next phase which involves me breaking the settings save file format in a drastic way. (There is just too many options to the solver/generator now to keep adding them one boolean option at a time) |
