Posted - 2016.02.25 10:02:49Sorry if this has been discussed before! Has anyone looked at the path length of each puzzle? Is there a correlation between path length and difficulty? I should imagine that the longer the path the easier the solve, but no idea if this is so!

Posted - 2016.02.25 18:32:40I tried a small sample : 8 Friday and 8 Tuesday puzzles. The length of paths were between 96 and 116 . The number of clues varied between 44 and 56. In Friday puzzles there was big variance in times (from 1.25 to 8.36 ) but couldn't detect correlation in either way. But in Tuesday puzzles there was a minor hint the way you suggested ( = less length means more difficulty) . Times were between 0.47 and 1.39 but the correlation is not strong This should be checked and run with a program that could evaluate the difficulty of the puzzles
