I take it that comment was directed at me!?

Yes, all but one deadline is now out the way (including HST), and everything's getting back to normal.  Let's see how DrNull does with today's puzzle though -  I reckon it can be done faster than 5min...

Are you kidding?  I don't think I could click through it that fast if I knew the answer already.  We'll see how far off I am from your time tomorrow.

No, she's quite right. Under five if you don't lose your way.

Well, you two were right, it really wasn't too terribly hard.  Actually, I found Monday's more difficult, though after revisiting it it came to me much more quickly.  Must have just missed something the first time, cause I had to fix position.

With that awesome Sunday score, we really shouldn't have too much trouble topping the previous high after Saturday's atrocity drops off the list.  Work hard this week, folks, a daily high will probably get you on the best ever list for a few weeks at least.

Saturday's atrocity?

Aw, come on, it wasn't *that* bad!

Well, it wasn't a 20 minute minimum like some weekenders have been in the past, but it did require a lot of fix position for me.  I need to revisit it this week.  Anyways, I guess just looking at our past few weekends, where the highs have been 6, 7, 8 minutes, 11 is bad.    Besides, it was exciting to think that we might push the best ever even lower!

Funnily enough: Did a random puzzle from the archives recently, felt like I did OK but nothing all that special, score comes up as about 11 minutes. You can imagine my surprise when I read the fine print: "back when this was a weekly puzzle, the best score was 20:46 by procrastinator". So although the recent weekend puzzles have been pretty easy, I think we're definitely getting sharper, too.

Yes.  Until Dr Null beats your time by a single, solitary second...

Procrastinator beat me by 3 seconds yesterday.    But I guess that was after I beat you by 2 seconds.  Boy, these daily puzzles are getting tight.

You can't complain that much.  You're in 1st place again!

Hey Procrastinator, did you get interrupted on today's puzzle?

No, just made a mistake that made the puzzle much harder. Even after I realised and reset I went pretty slowly, though. One of those days. Today was one of those days too actually, but I was in fixed-position (very fortunate - I only remember to use FP about once a week) when I made the error. Seems like everyone else managed to do worse, though. I think this is about a 2:25 puzzle, so I've still got my fingers crossed for tzukanion to score her first daily championship even if it stops me owning four days for the first time.

I went down quite a path in FP as well, only to get a contradiction.

Agreed, somehow, it should have been easier than I made it.

Ok, gotta ask, cause this is the second time I've noticed you doing this.

Do you...
a) always refer to people whose gender you do not know as "she"
b) infer based on usernames what a person's gender is or
c) know astrokath & tzukanion in "real life"?

Hopefully the "Kath" part of my name should give my gender away!  But I'd be surprised if I knew anyone here IRL, and vice versa.
As for Tzukanion... I'm sure I've seen another post in the forum indicating that they know each other.

So - is it time for an "Introduce yourself" thread?

I messed up today's puzzle too... very stupidly blocked the top end of the diagonal line of 2's in the lower left corner.  It can be done, cold, in under 2mins, so I'm sure someone can manage a 2.30 time or better if their luck's in.

Well that's the way FP is meant to work sometimes, right? My problem was that I got a contradiction _both_ ways and had to do them both again to work out which one I'd stuffed up.

Still, even if noone gets a particularly good time today, we've remained in striking distance for Saturday.

As astrokath surmised, a mixture of b and c.

Ahh, right.  I must have missed that other post.  As for astrokath, I never really put 2+2, but now, with your talk of hubble deadlines and such... well, leave it to a guy to be so dense.

It's amazing what google turns up about people who use a common, unique username.    You'd pretty quickly find my interest in TiVo hacking, TopCoder, and other programming areas.  TopCoder interest died long ago once I got a real job and didn't have to scrounge for money on the side while in grad school.

Cool, even found the .h file that originated my nick back in college.  I know, it's weird.  It's just one of those things. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/academic/computer-science/history/pdp-11/xinu/unpacked/include/disk.h

Let's see how well it works:
Astrokath, are you slightly interested in gardening and mersenne primes, a fan of Douglas Adams, born (and still living) in Aberfoyle Park, Adelaide, South Australia about 47.3 years ago, and have a dog named Whiskey?

Course, names like procrastinator are a little more difficult to track down...

Since we all like puzzles, it might be more fun to have a "Introduce someone else" thread.

Ah, I wondered if that were you.  However, I'm not the only astrokath out on the web, nor is it my only username.
